Garcia House

214 W Salinas STREET

This caliche, limestone and brick house was begun by Mariano Garcia about 1856 and enlarged about 1900, evolving as the family grew. The original front portion of the structure is representative of mid-nineteenth century vernacular design in San Antonio, while the rear two-story brick ell (circa 1900) and tower at the northwest corner (1910) typify more modern construction. Garcia’s descendents lived here until the house was sold in 1981 and converted to office use.
